Schüller's Strike Gives Bayern Munich Advantage
In a thrilling first leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinal, Arsenal and Bayern Munich played to a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium on March 29, 2023.
Lea Schüller gave the visitors an early advantage in the 16th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Arsenal. The goal was a bitter blow for the home side, who had dominated the opening stages of the match.
However, Arsenal refused to give up and equalized in the 74th minute through a stunning strike by Stina Blackstenius. The Swedish international controlled the ball with her chest at the edge of the box before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
The equalizer gave Arsenal a much-needed boost and they pushed for a winner in the closing stages. However, Bayern Munich held strong and managed to protect their lead until the final whistle.
The result leaves Arsenal with a lot of work to do in the second leg, which will be played at Allianz Arena on April 5, 2023. The Gunners will need to score at least one goal to have any chance of progressing to the semifinals.
